Killing Candida

By Debora Myers

Candida Albicans is a yeast that commonly lives in the intestinal tract. The problems arise when the overgrowth of this fungus takes over and invades other body systems. Left untreated it is extremely persistent and invasive and can severely weaken the body and make one an easy victim for serious deadly diseases. The medical mainstream is just now starting to recognize this disease, but many orthodox physicians are poorly informed and are therefore unable to diagnose and treat it. Here are the common areas where the yeast overgrowth manifests itself: gastrointestinal and urinary tracts, the reproductive organs, allergic reactions and emotional and mental difficulties.

Some of the general symptoms that can be traced to Candida overgrowth are: White/cheesy vaginal discharge that burns and irritates the vulva; anal itching and burning; explosive intestinal gas and belching; cloudy film on eyeballs; itchy inner ears; headaches, nausea, severe PMS, recurrent bladder irritation or infections, diarrhea, constipation, fever, mental confusion, emotional confusion; manic craving of sweets; and blood sugar problems. You may have all or only a few of the symptoms, but if you experience any of these a trip to your doctor may be in order. Locate a physician that is familiar with the condition and who can help you with the correct diet essential in killing off the fungus. Many doctors will simply prescribe an anti-fungal medication without asking about your diet. This may help you temporarily but the yeast will most likely come back if you do not stop it at the source.

I personally have been plagued with this disease since I was a child and can attest to the traditional allopathic medical establishment’s lack of information referring to this common ailment. My symptoms were treated as separate problems never having a doctor that could link the problems to the responsible factor, candida albicans. I was treated like a hypochondriac. Health care nurses at the health department belittled me. I was misdiagnosed and given terribly invasive treatments that worsened my condition. Finally, during my second pregnancy, sick and crazy with the overgrowth, I contacted a local midwife who was furious at what I had been put through by the medical establishment.

She referred me to two books that SAVED MY LIFE, The Yeast Syndrome by John Trowbridge, M.D. and Morton Walker, D.P.M. and The Yeast Connection by William G. Crook. When I read the many symptoms of the disease and checked off many of them I was appalled and thrilled at the same time. Appalled that I had been misdiagnosed for so many years, and thrilled that I could maybe rid myself of this illness that had taken over every cell of my body. I am now healthy and happy thanks to the work of the health care providers mentioned above! Please read on. This may help you or someone you know.

Remember that when you are preparing yeast bread, the first thing you do to make the yeast grow or multiply is to add sugar. Now envision this fungus in your body. Every time you eat sugar or foods that are quickly metabolized you are feeding the yeast organisms and they multiply. Stop eating simple sugars and you can starve off the yeast. Not easy in today’s world, but you will find support and help from the previous mentioned books. As the parasitic yeast grows it emits toxic gases that poison your body’s systems. These microscopic fungi can invade every cell of your body. It actually eats away at you, slowly eroding every system. I cannot begin to go into the complexities of this disease; I can only introduce you to the basics of controlling it.

Some Causes of Candida Overgrowth include the overuse of antibiotics, birth control pills, cortisone drugs, progesterone suppositories and the over-consumption of meat and sugars. Other contributing factors include immune system weakness and high mercury levels.

The seriousness of the yeast syndrome is not to be overlooked. The diseases linked with the yeast syndrome include but are not limited to: acquired immune deficiency syndrome, multiple sclerosis, diabetes mellitus, pancreatitus, rheumatoid arthritis, myasthenia gravis, colitis, regional ileitis, schizophrenia, migraine headaches, asthma, systemic lupus erythematosis, attention deficit disorders, cancers of many types, and possibly death from Candida septicemia.

Candida strikes many children, especially children receiving inordinate amounts of antibiotics and children that eat excessive amounts of junk foods and sugars. The yeast syndrome is more common in women and girls but occurs in men and boys as well. Newborn infants can acquire the illness in vetro or as they come down the mother’s birth canal. Many of you mothers know of the common thrush that effects babies tongues and mouths. Thrush is a yeast.

If you or someone you know suffers from recurrent yeast infections and you have some of the symptoms of systemic yeast infection, there is light at the end of the tunnel (pardon the pun). With dietary changes and herbal and nutritional support the syndrome can be brought under control and one can feel vital, healthy and alive again. All it takes it the correct information and a little perseverance!
