Aromatherapy and Personal Growth
by Francoise Rapp
The living body radiates a warmth and energy called the vital life force, and has within and surrounding it an intricate electrical network comprised of:
- The aura, which possesses four distinct and specific layers: spiritual, mental, emotional, and etheric.
- The chakra system, composed of seven main energy centers.
- And the meridians, which dispatch and feed us energy.
When we are healthy, this network remains in balance. But when we are facing stress (emotional, mental or physical), this electrical system automatically activates the nervous and immune system in order to maintain equilibrium. Our balance depends not only on a healthy diet, but also a healthy emotional, mental and spiritual lifestyle.
In recent years, we have been able to prove and differentiate the energetic field, and the positive effects that natural therapies, such as aromatherapy, have on the human body as a whole. This awareness helps us understand the source of the patterns of imbalance that lead to ailments and disease.
How aromatherapy effects us at such a subtle yet profound level is, in fact, very simple. The essential oils from a plant represent the pure life force and energy of that plant, and they are electrically alive. When you inhale them or apply them topically, they affect the individual rapidly and positively. Aromatherapy is the most versatile, powerful and affordable natural tool to use at home or professionally by therapists, coaches, massage therapists, acupuncturists, etc.
But how do we use aromatherapy for personal growth? We take into consideration the chakra system and its connection to emotional, mental and spiritual patterns. Many essences are associated with these patterns according to their specific frequency, and we select the right essences depending on how active that chakra is. For instance, if an individual is experiencing grief or loneliness, we know the primary chakra concerned is the heart center, which in this case is overactive. The primary essential oil to balance and heal issues located within the heart chakra is Rose. We would therefore recommend adding two drops of Rose essential oil to a 10-ml bottle filled with vegetable oil and anoint the heart chakra when needed. The individual could also take a warm bath with 20 drops of this blend added to the water. Or simply breathe it in deeply anytime during the day.

How will it affect the person? Rose will warm up the heart, easing pain and bringing emotional comfort. The individual will recover faster and with more ease, and avoids a build up of emotions which would remain stored within the four bodies (physical, emotional, mental and spiritual).
Aromatherapy is a most wonderful and beneficial natural tool to use along with personal growth. It quickens the process of growth, eases the pain of growing and breaking patterns, deepens insight (allowing the individual to go to the core of the issue), and supports morally the person willing to take the steps toward a new and positive life.
