Books: Ancient Ceremony Hidden in "The 12 Days of Christmas"

Posted on Monday, December 10, 2007 - 02:00 PM

The new edition of "The Ancient Wisdom of the 12 Days of Christmas: The Hidden Teachings behind the Song" reveals an ancient goal-setting ceremony which, while practiced by a core few, was kept hidden in plain sight since the middle ages. It was camouflaged within a Christmas carol so as to avoid the persecution of it's practitioners, to be brought forth someday when the time was right.

Ancient Ceremony Hidden in "The 12 Days of Christmas"

The book The Ancient Wisdom of the Twelve Days of Christmas: The Hidden Teachings Behind the Song by Rain on the Earth, has just been released in its 2nd edition. With content especially pertinent to the season, the book reveals an ancient ceremony that has been ongoing while hidden in plain sight. The familiar Christmas carol, "The 12 Days of Christmas" is part of a goal-setting ceremony meant to cause transformation in the practitioner's life. Like a plot twist from "The DaVinci Code" the practice was kept secret and passed forward only from one teacher/guardian to the next. The author, informally known as Rain, said, "The 12 gifts spoken of in the song are actually symbolic references. In times of old the ceremony had to be camouflaged inside of a Christmas carol so as to avoid the persecution and death of its practitioners by the religious establishment of the day."

About 35 years ago the ceremony's previous gatekeeper, medicine woman Mello Rye, passed on her knowledge of the ceremony to current practitioner Rain on the Earth. Rain, also a spiritual adept, felt moved to share it more openly than in previous times and was recently inspired to write and publish this book. Said Rain, "These teachings were always intended to be shared and made easily accessible when the time was right. That time is now."

The book makes the ceremony possible for anyone that reads it. It is a kind of training manual. The ceremony is ideally performed beginning on the first new moon after the winter solstice (the shortest night of the year), but can actually be done at the start of any new moon. It can take just a few minutes (or longer if desired) and is done for 13 consecutive days.

The ceremony, also known as "The Festival of Lights," has been continuously in practice for thousands of years predating Christianity. It was given a derogatory designation as a "pagan" ritual when the The Holy Roman Empire sought to obliterate all memory of ancient traditions that seemed to threaten it's absolute power. To be kept alive, it had to be handed down in secret from one spiritual guardian to the next for the past eon or so.

It is and always has been designed to involve a participant organically with the natural movement of earth/lunar cycles. The well-known song "The Twelve Days of Christmas" is intrinsic to the ceremony.

The concept that the song is actually an integral part of an ancient ceremony which predates Christianity is an interesting idea. Said Rain, "As kids we sang the song, but we always wondered what it meant. When I first heard that it had to do with a Christmas ceremony I was surprised, then intrigued and after a while it all made sense."
