Spirituality/General: Hold That Thought! by Camille Strate

Posted on Sunday, December 23, 2007 - 11:29 PM

Think that changing your life takes large effort? Think again. There are simple little "games" you can play that will ablolutely change your life.

Hold That Thought!

by Camille Strate

You know what's really crazy-fun? Watching your life unfold as you hold true to the things you believe in. Watching as you let go of all those limiting beliefs, replacing them as you go, with wonderful new beliefs that change your Life, moment by moment. To see, better yet, to experience the changes each day and sit in wonderment at the ease of it all. These are the things that keep me writing, keep me reaching, keep me offering more of my Self each and every day. It's a joyous experience, to be sure, but still...

There are so many people who sit in despair. This time of year seems to deepen that despair as they wallow in the sadness that is their Life. They refuse to participate in any thing that will bring a moment's relief from that despair, comfortable where they are because it's familiar. How nuts is that??? But it's true. We all see it all around us. And for those of us who have made the decision to choose joy, it's quite a challenge to let those people sit where they are.

I know of one such person, and to this day, although I no longer "try" to get her to "snap out of it," I remain ever diligent in my hope that one day, not too far in the future, she will tire of the sorry state of her Life and get on with it. That one day, not too far in the future, she'll realize that she's a luminous, beautiful spirit with so much to offer and so much to have. That one day, in the very near future, she will come to understand that she is source energy and that she has no need for plastic surgeries (multiple surgeries on a far-too-frequent basis!) or abusive men or some "sugar daddy" to validate her worthiness. And while it no longer occupies much of my energy, still I see it and I send my prayers out and I hope.

One of the most recent "games" I've begun playing is "Hold That Thought." As a huge fan of Abraham (see Esther Hicks), I've got several of their books on my bedside table, my favorite of which is Ask & It Is Given. There are lots of "games" in this book that inspire us to play with some new modes of thought. Although this particular game I mention here is not actually in the book, it is part of their message on a very consistent basis. That is to say, if you hold a thought for 17 seconds, it "launches a rocket of desire." Hold it for another 17 seconds, and it grows in magnitude, 10 fold. Another 17 and you've got yourself a Super Rocket. And one more time...you've "officially" managed to change your own vibration at such a level as to change your "frequency." 68 seconds can change your life! Don't believe me? Ask anyone who's ever been in a serious car accident. In less than 68 seconds, entire lives are altered. That's an ugly example, but you get my point.

Now, I'll admit, the first time I heard this I was utterly unconvinced. As much as I consider myself an "open-minded artist," I'm also quite the pragmatic little beast. So, to hear this message delivered immediately launched some rockets of skepticism. Right. 68 seconds are going to change my life? Yeah. Sure. But....(isn't there always a "but?") I'm also a very curious little imp and I couldn't resist testing the theory. And so I did.

What transpired thereafter was nothing short of miraculous. I mean it! All sorts of crazy things began to "show up," without any effort whatsoever. Big things. Things that have changed my life! And all on account of my testing the theory that holding a thought might actually be effective. Who knew???

So, I sit here now, shortly after returning home from a short errand and loads of traffic and lots of impatient people, none of whom put a smidge of a damper on my jolly mood....to find myself in wonderment of the power of this little nugget. Hold That Thought! Hold it for 17 seconds...and then another...and then another...until you've held it, without judgement or doubt or fear...and watch what happens. I'm sending the "rockets" to my friend, the one who loves to wallow. And I'm sending another to my Raja (my awesome dog) and another to my sister, Cricket, who may have M.S. Because I have found, in a very short time, that holding that thought does effectively affect change. And, as simple as it sounds, if you'll give it a try, you too might be astonished at the power of this little 'game'.

After all, isn't fun the best thing to have?
