Internet: More People Seek Alternative Health Care

Posted on Saturday, July 19, 2008 - 02:00 PM

In response to the increasing numbers of consumers seeking alternative health care solutions, The Healing Canopy officially launches its new online natural health magazine.

More People Seek Alternative Health Care

Alternative health care practitioners are reporting a significant increase in new patients as a growing number of people are beginning to explore more natural methods of healing. Many people are waking up to the fact that their family doctor may not have all of the answers and they are becoming increasingly dissatisfied with the unsettling side effects of prescription medication and the aftermath of sometimes unnecessary surgical procedures.

"It's been my experience that conventional medicine is somewhat lacking when it comes to discussing natural preventative therapies with their patients," says Lena Cardoso president of The Healing Canopy. "I've watched my own loved ones suffer horribly with chronic conditions such as fibromyalgia and basically get written off by the conventional medical establishment."

Surveys show that most people who choose alternative health care do so for a variety of reasons such as being in control of their own health, choosing therapies that are more in line with their personal belief systems, wanting a gentler more natural approach with fewer side effects and finding remedies that actually address the root causes of disease rather than just managing symptoms.

These individuals also tend to be well-educated and informed, as they proactively seek out and research the best natural health care options available for their particular affliction. Typically they turn to the Internet as a resource guide, which can quickly become problematic as they find themselves deluged with massive amounts of information on alternative and natural therapies.

"Trying to find reliable natural health information on the web can be very overwhelming," says Lena. "Separating the legitimate natural health care practitioners and therapies from the snake oil salesmen can be a bit like finding a needle in a haystack."

In light of recent product recalls featured in the mainstream media, warning consumers of suspect ingredients in everything from drugs to vitamins produced by some foreign manufacturers, it's becoming more apparent that staying well informed and having a direct say when it comes to one's own health is vital.

"This is why we created The Healing Canopy website," says managing director Jason Simpkins. "We wanted to offer a resource that would provide individuals with reliable information on natural and preventative healthcare, allowing them to take charge of their own health in a way that is safer and more in harmony with nature."

The online magazine offers readers a valuable guide for making healthy lifestyle choices through informative articles and interviews by expert authors in diverse fields such as fitness, nutrition, the mind/body connection and healthy living. Nutritious recipes that are quick and easy to make are also showcased, along with insightful videos and a free newsletter covering up to date natural health research from around the world.

In addition, The Healing Canopy offers an e-commerce store carrying a variety of high quality organic whole food nutritional supplements, making it convenient for even the busiest of individuals to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

In the near future, The Healing Canopy plans to continue expanding its ecommerce presence online, as well as incorporate a world-wide community network where people interested in healthy living can reach out to exchange stories, ideas and offer each other moral support.

"What makes us stand apart from other health oriented web sites, is that we really take a holistic or "whole person" approach to wellness," says Lena. "We consider true health to encompass the mind, body and spirit and we aim to reflect that philosophy in all of the information and products we offer."
