| The bad news is that our site needs your immediate help. The good news is, you don't need to make a donation to help us. All you need to do is shop – and we all like to go shopping, right?
Back in the Saddle, but Needing Your Help
by Christine Hall - Editor
Some of you might have noticed that beginning around the middle of August we quit publishing new feature articles here on AlternativeApproaches.com. In November, we resumed publication of a few feature articles, on a somewhat sporadic basis. During all of this time, we kept the site updated with new news articles, at least three per day as usual, but the original content that we've built our reputation upon was gone. And if you subscribe to our weekly newsletter, you might have noticed that we quit putting those out on August 17th. Well, I'm happy to announce that beginning today, we're back on schedule with new feature articles – two each Sunday with a third published on Thursday. We're also resuming the publication of our weekly newsletter, with a new edition scheduled to be sent out today.
The reason for this failure on our part was illness. At the end of July, I was treated for Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever after a tick bite. As luck would have it, less than ten days after I finished that round of antibiotics, I came down with a rather nasty kidney infection (probably caused by the same tick bite) that required treatment with the antibiotic Cipro – which is a very powerful drug with some very unpleasant side effects. The Cipro did the trick, it knocked out the infection, but I've spent the last several months recovering from the effects of the drug that “healed” me.
This experience, which resulted in time spent at two hospitals, has reinforced my knowledge at how utterly incapable our modern medical system is at healing people. For sure, they're really good at “curing,” but they still have a lot to learn about how the healing process works. Down the road I'll write an article or three about this, but right now I have some more immediate concerns to bring to your attention.
Simply put, right now AlternativeApproaches.com is in a financial mess. The time spent recovering from my illnesses meant that I was forced to neglect business matters here at the site and at The Unicorn Shoppe, the store that makes AlternativeApproaches.com possible. That, combined with the nosedive of the economy, has put us into a tight situation money wise.
In other words, we need your help.
Since January of 2000, AlternativeApproaches.com has served as an information center for the metaphysical, New Age and Magickal communities. We've maintained a steady publishing schedule, bring you hundreds of original feature articles on everything from hermetics to Nadi Astrology. Over the years, we've developed our news department, so that now we publish twenty or thirty news articles every week on a wide ranging list of subjects of interest – from ecological issues to holistic health to news of the Magickal community, you'll find it all covered on our site.
During this time, our main source of income has been our online store, The Unicorn Shoppe, where we offer (at last count) over 2,000 products. The items we offer range from metaphysical and ritual tools to fantasy items like dragon and fairy statues. If you're a magickal person, you would be hard put to find a magickal item that we don't carry at our shop.
Unfortunately, as our economy has suffered, so has our business. In other words, we need you to shop at our store. Yule will be coming-up soon, and we're asking you to do some of your Yule shopping with us. Our prices are lower that most of our competitors, orders over $30.00 get free shipping and we offer a wide range of quality items.
This is a win-win situation. When you shop at our store, you get great items that you want and need at a great price – and you help keep AlternativeApproaches.com (a great online magazine, if I do say some myself) alive as well. So please, help us out by visiting our online store. You're certain to find many items you like – and you purchase will help support this site.
