Spirituality/Paganism & Magick: Winter Solstice 2008 - Visualize Sustainable World Prosperity Now

Posted on Friday, November 28, 2008 - 02:28 PM

We ask you to join us this Solstice as we work some magick to help bring this economic mess to an end. If you do decide to join-in, you must begin your prep work now.

Winter Solstice 2008 - Visualize Sustainable World Prosperity Now

by Christine Hall

The time is now. One way or another, the world as we know it is about to come to an end. We can either elevate ourselves to a new level, to live in harmony with the earth and with compassion for our fellow human beings, or we can slide deeply into a morass which will eventually lead to our extinction. In other words, it's time for us magickal folks to get off of our duffs and go out to help change the world. The great work lies before us.

And what is it that's calling us to action? As someone said back in 1992, “It's the economy, stupid.”

The world's economy is in a mess. Banks around the world are failing and world stock markets are caught in a deep downward spiral. Here in the states, even our big automakers are begging congress to save them from bankruptcy. Although our economists publicly talk about an upcoming “deep recession,” we know that among themselves they're using the words “Great Depression.”

If true, it means the planet may be facing suffering on a scale never before seen. There are something like three times more people alive today than existed during the last Great Depression. Most of these people, even during good times, barely get enough food to eat. In many countries, starvation is a fact of daily life. If the world economy collapses, these numbers will grow rapidly, and will eventually touch countries like the U.S. and the nations of western Europe, where the poorest of the poor are well off by world standards.

Here at AlternativeApproaches.com and The Unicorn Shoppe, we prefer not to dwell on these negatives because we understand a metaphysical truth: the more we worry and fret about potential economic disaster, the more likely that disaster becomes. This is true in every area of our lives, and it's especially true when it comes to economic issues because the economy doesn't really exist – at least not in the way that we perceive it to exist. It's an abstraction held together by trust, which is why it's now threatening to go down in flames. Oddly enough, in a world filled with dishonesty, trust has been lost.

This may seem to be an oversimplification, and it is, but if you look at our current economic woes, you'll see that it's a simplification that uncovers the bare simple truth. Markets are stuck, businesses are failing, workers are being laid-off, all because the money has quit flowing due to a loss of trust. We're talking Reaganesque voodoo economics here, for the disease starts at the top and trickles down. Banks don't loan to each other because they fear they won't be paid back. That, in turn, dams up the money flow leading to failing businesses, laid off workers, and eventually spreading world hunger.

By this point, you might have noticed that our “not dwelling on the negative” doesn't mean we aren't paying attention. We watch the world teeter on the brink of an uncharted precipice, fully aware that there's very much at stake and we (meaning all of us) can't afford to lose. So we look for the silver lining that's said to be inside of every dark storm cloud and in searching for that lining we find a great opportunity, if only we can seize the moment.

During the past month or so, we've noticed a paradigm shift in the thinking of the masses. Here in America, and throughout the materialistic west, people are beginning to question their values. They're beginning to realize that they don't need to continue to amass material things. If you watch television or listen to radio, you'll hear people talking about how all they really need is their health and their connection with friends and family. People who just a few months ago couldn't be happy without the latest new gadget, or the newest designer outfit, are starting to realize that happiness doesn't come from the things they own (and which end up owning them), but from the basics of life.

This means that this is a moment that must be seized. We, meaning the sane members of humankind, must help to turn this economy around now, but do so in a way that nurtures this new awareness that's beginning to grow within the minds of “everyman.”

In other words, we must see to it that the economy that arises isn't the same economy that's now going down in flames. An economic boom that's based on an increasing dependence on fossil fuel, which fills our atmosphere with greenhouse gases and poisons, and our landfills with discarded plastics, doesn't do us any good in the long term. An economy built on consumerism and convenience at any cost is not only not sustainable in this greatly overcrowded world in which we live, but keeps people from finding their true selves.

That's why we're calling upon all magickal people to help change the world – to help bring an end to this economic collapse, and to make sure that the world's financial recovery is sustainable. We're calling upon all Buddhists, Wiccans, Pagans, New Agers, Transcendental Meditators – anybody who understands that magick is the power of consciousness to bring about change – to join us on the Winter Solstice, December 21, 2008 at 12:04 PM GMT, as we “Visualize Sustainable World Prosperity Now.”

We're calling on you to visualize “world prosperity” because we know that it should be everyone's birthright to have adequate shelter, good food, the possibility of an education and access to meaningful health care. We want this world prosperity to be “sustainable,” because it's now painfully obvious that the old unsustainable models we've been living under are on the verge of destroying our world. We must have a world economic model that's sincere about quickly moving toward sustainability. And we want this sustainable world prosperity “now,” because every day that goes by without this prosperity reaching into every corner of the globe is another day when people suffer and die.

We should begin this meditation, this visualization, sometime before the actual time of the Solstice, and end it after the solstice has passed. In other words, we should sit down and begin the visualization at least ten or fifteen minutes ahead of the solstice and continue until ten to fifteen minutes after the solstice. This way, we will be planting the seed of our conscious visualization just as the Earth moves from increasing darkness to increasing light. This will allow our visualization to gestate over the winter, to be born in the spring, at the time of the Equinox, when the light finally overtakes the darkness.

This is not as simple a task as it might at first seem.

To be successful, we must begin the process now, by sitting down and clearly thinking through what “sustainable global prosperity” means. Each of us will have our own way of doing this. Some of us might make a list and others might sit and write an essay. The artist might create a painting of this vision. The musician might write it into a song. But however it's done, this “thinking it through” is an extremely important part of the process, for we must be certain that we are clear in what we are wanting to create.

On the day of the solstice, after we rise from our meditation, we should set in our minds the thought that the deed has been done, that the earth is pregnant with prosperity which will be born in the spring. Then, in the spring, we should each plant a garden of fruits, vegetables and herbs in our yards, using no pesticides or inorganic fertilizers, to show the Earth (and ourselves) that we are willing to work for this world prosperity. And we should freely give away the fruits, vegetables and herbs that we grow, envisioning that we're spreading prosperity to every corner of the earth.

If you see the benefit of this, we ask you to join us, for the more people we have meditating with us the more powerful will be the seed of consciousness that will be planted. If you can, get together a group in your town or village, and if you do get a group or a space together, let us know at "office at alternativeapproaches.com", so we can post it here on our site so that others in your area can find you.

If we're successful no one will recognize the part we played, which is as it should be. The economists and the politicians will get credit, which is fitting, for they will have performed their magick too. As magickal people, we will not need to take credit for our small part – for we understand the law of silence. It doesn't matter who does a thing. It only matters that it gets done.
