The Age of Miracles

by Sheila Forester

Mysterious Crosses of Light. Hindu statues that drink milk. Visions of the Virgin Mary. Extraordinary Healing Waters. Since the late 1980?s exceptional events, often referred to as miracles, have been occurring in rapid, large-scale succession. These miracles defy rational interpretation. They cannot be explained by modern science, yet they have caused profound changes in the lives of both believers and non-believers.

Who or what is responsible for this strange increase in phenomena? Are these signs orchestrated from a Divine Source or just happenstance? With the current world conflicts causing gloom in many, world-wide miracles are conversely generating a sense of renewed optimism and hope for the future.

My search for miracles began early. During childhood, in times of despair, I would pray to God to show me a sign that He was watching over me. But it wasn’t until several years ago, when I had given up all hope in Divinity, that a much needed miracle came my way. The miracle I experienced provided dramatic proof of a Presence greater than me and that I was never alone. For the hope, comfort and peace miracles offer, allow me to present a few highly-documented, modern day miracles.

Crosses of Light

Ten years ago, no one had seen nor heard of them. Today Crosses of Light are appearing in windows on every continent. The first Cross of Light appeared in May, 1988, in a home in El Monte, California, a low-income section of Los Angeles. Currently there are 30 such crosses in the El Monte area.

A Cross of Light is made by any common light source refracting through the type of glass commonly found in bathroom windows, forming a holographic image of an even-armed Cross within a diamond. The image appears to be suspended in mid-air between glass and light.

As a result of the Crosses, there now exists a sense of community in the once crime dominated El Monte neighborhood. Thousands have observed the Crosses of Light and feel they are in the presence of God. Many report healings of various diseases. The initial response of those in whose homes the Crosses have appeared share a common element; a sense of hope for the future.

Crosses of Light are also appearing in other parts of the world, including Canada, France, England, Japan, New Zealand and the Philippines. In the U. S. there are Crosses in Tennessee, Louisiana, Texas, Washington, Oregon, New Jersey and other locations in California.

Hindu Milk Miracle

For four days in September 1995 throughout the Hindu world, from Calcutta to Canada, from Southall to Singapore, millions of Hindus say they witnessed the greatest world-wide miracle of all time. In temples, houses and village huts, statues of the elephant-headed God Ganesh and Shiva the destroyer appeared to drink the milk offerings presented to them by devotees and priests. In New Delhi and other Indian cities the dairies ran dry. Thousands of gallons of milk disappeared when offered to the statues made of stone, wood, brass, copper and bronze.

Life in India was brought to a virtual standstill as people rushed to temples to see for themselves the drinking gods. The Indian parliament shut down for several hours and trading ground to a halt on stock markets in Bombay and New Delhi. Astonished journalists, while filming this event for millions, actively participated in the miracle and become believers. Hindus regard the Milk Miracle as proof of a Divine Presence in the world.

Healing Waters

Waiting for their opportunity for a miracle, thousands of people line up daily on a dusty road in the little town of Tlacote, Mexico. There people wait to fill up their container of Healing Water which is said to have cured everything from AIDS and cancer to diabetes and heart disease.

This “Wonder Water” was first discovered in May, 1991 when an injured dog was healed by drinking from a new spring. Since its finding the healing water is pumped and freely given to the sick and lame. People have traveled from as far as Russia and Europe hoping to be cured. The Healing Water weighs less than regular H20, and is believed to strengthen the cellular structure of the body and act as a general tonic.

Since 1991, two more sources of Healing Water have been found. One is in Nordenau, Germany, 100 km east of Düsseldorf; the other is in the village of Nadana, 150 km north of Delhi, India.

Crop Circles

Viewed from above, crop circles are undeniably beautiful. Their extraordinary structure and precision are compelling to see. Crop circles are found when stalks of wheat or other crops are laid low to the ground after night falls – sometimes in perfect circles or sometimes in patterns which resemble hieroglyphics. Crop circles have appeared worldwide, with hundreds concentrated in South Central England and others in Canada, the U. S. and across Europe and Japan.

No matter what is creating the crop circles, they are having a tremendous impact on thousands of people worldwide. Many eyewitnesses believe crop circles are created and left deliberately as a sign of a Higher Presence.

Apparitions of Jesus and the Virgin Mary

Since January 1, 1999, more than 23,500 people around the world, from Liverpool, England to Wichita, Kansas, have reported seeing Jesus, the Virgin Mary, or both. And the monthly number of sightings has been increasing. What’s more, numerous respected theologians from almost every Christian denomination are convinced that many of the reports are genuine.

Equally impressive is the explosive growth in the number of statues and other religious icons reported to weep blood, tears or oil. There have also been several photographs of clouds taken by different people in airplanes on which the standing figure of Jesus or the Virgin Mary is clearly superimposed.

The White Buffalo Calf

For Native Americans, the rare birth of a white buffalo calf is seen as the most significant of prophetic signs. “The arrival of a white buffalo calf is like the Second Coming of Christ, a symbol of hope, rebirth and unity,” says Floyd Hand, a Sioux medicine man from South Dakota. In 1994 a white buffalo calf was born in Janesville, Wisconsin. The calf, named “Miracle,” has been visited by state and religious dignitaries, including His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Thousands of people of different faiths have visited Miracle and believe that her rare birth is a sacred sign for humanity to come together.

There are countless other miraculous phenomena which have and are continuing to occur. In the Muslim community the word “Allah” is being discovered in melons, eggplants, tomatoes, potatoes and inside fish. More and more people are reporting encounters with Angels and other Heavenly Beings. Recent events in world history, such as the crumbling of the Berlin Wall, the end of the Cold War and the Northern Ireland Peace Agreement, can only be viewed as miraculous and unexpected events.

Not only do these world-wide miracles indicate a higher presence, but there is also speculation that these events verify the coming of a Great Teacher. At this point in history all traditions, religious and non-religious, now expect the return of a great Embodiment of Love, though they call Him by different names. The Christians anticipate the Christ; Jews the Messiah; Muslims the Imam Mahdi; Hindus expect another Krishna; and Buddhists await Maitreya Buddha. Students of Esoteric Philosophy look for the coming of Lord Maitreya, head of Earth’s Spiritual Hierarchy, whose arrival will inaugurate the new Aquarian Age. His Coming will assist mankind in creating a “golden civilization” based on sharing, justice and peace.

Although these world-wide miracles are dramatically affecting change on a mass scale, it is important not to overlook the influence small miracles have in our daily rounds. Almost everyone has encountered a Good Samaritan, remarkable coincidences and answered prayers. Even hearing the words “I love you,” opening one’s heart to forgive ourselves and others, and the consoling words of a good friend aid in transforming our life’s direction.

Miracles give us every reason to rejoice as we move into this new century and beyond. Miracles have the ability to reconnect us to our truest nature and to rekindle the essential trust in a greater purpose. Miracles help us to realize our journey is safe, purposeful and never without Guidance.

Marianne Williamson describes miracles as a “parting of the mist, a shift in perception.” Is it possible then, that miracles are divinely manifested for our own spiritual awakening? Thousands who have witnessed a miracle contend it has been the awakening realization of God within and around them. Could it be the real miracle is not the event itself, but the potential change that event has upon us?
