Category: Main -> Writers' GuidelinesQuestionAnswerWould you be interested in publishing an article I've written? We're always looking for well written and informative articles that will fit our format. Basically the article can be about any subject that is “alternative” and out of the mainstream. Our focus is alternative spirituality and health, but we will consider alternative themes on other subjects. We also have a section on computing, so if you have an interest in Open Source software or GNU/Linux, we would be interested as well. Back to top
What are your requirements for an article I might want to submit?First and foremost, it must deal with a subject that fits the theme of our site. Again, think “alternative.” The length can vary greatly, although we don't usually accept articles that are less than 800 words. The maximum length is up to you and the subject matter. Usually we don't like our articles to be any longer than 2,000 words, but we have published many articles of over 5,000 words. These longer articles are usually multi-part articles that can be published over several editions. Back to top
My article is currently being featured on several other web sites. Will you still consider publishing it?Probably not. We are mainly interested in articles that aren't available elsewhere on the web. If your article is only being featured on your own personal web site, we have no problem with that and will still consider it for publication. However, we will not consider articles that are currently “featured” on web sites other than your own. By “featured” we mean that the article or a link to it is currently on a site's home page. Once the article or link leaves the home page, we will be happy to consider it for publication, even if it remains in the archives of other sites. We do occasionally make exceptions to this rule. If in doubt, send an email to editorial@alternativeapproaches.com and ask. Back to top
Do you pay anything for the articles you publish on your site?At this time we are not able to pay our writers for the articles that we publish. However, we can compensate you in another way. If you have anything going on that would benefit from being publicized (like book, classes, workshops or a web site) we will be happy to announce these things to our readers. All articles will contain information and links about your events, books, website, etc., at the bottom of the article. Also, we will list any events in our calendar. Back to top
How do I submit an article to you?Articles should be submitted as an email attachment using MS Word or OpenOffice to editorial@alternativeapproaches.com. Use simple manuscript formatting with no tables or columns and do not embed any graphics within the article. Do not send your article as the text of an email. Any article sent for consideration that is formatted with tables, columns, embedded graphics, or any article sent as a text email makes our job much more difficult and will not be considered! Send any illustrations as separate JPEG or PNG attachments. If the placement of graphics within the article seems important to you, use parenthesis to note within the article where you recommend the illustration to go (example: insert graphic one here). Since my article is already posted on my personal home page, can't I just send you a link to the article and let you deal with it from there? We are sorry, but we will not consider any article that is sent to us as a link. Back to top
What rights to my article do you require? We only ask that we have your article exclusively for a period of 30 days, which will begin on the publication date. During this time, your article should not appear on the front page of any other site but your own personal home page. At the end of the 30 days, you are free to submit your article to other publishers, however we retain perpetual rights to keep your article on our site in our archives. Back to top
