Between now and the Autumnal Equinox, we'll be publishing a series of weekly articles by Christine Hall under the heading "The Summer of Love – 40 Years After." These articles will not only focus on the summer of 1967, but will cover the events that led up to this historic (some would say mythological) event, and on events that followed as a direct consequence.
The Summer of Love – 40 Years After
It Was Forty Years Ago Today, Sgt Pepper Taught the Band to Play
by Christine Hall
In 1967, personal computers were, as yet, unimagined and the advent of the Internet was nearly thirty years away. There were no VCRs or DVDs; if you wanted to see a movie you had to go to the theater or wait for it to be shown on over-the-air television. If you needed to do research, say for an article such as this, you had to make a trip to the library. If you wanted a copy of the latest hit song, you had to travel to a record store, as there was not even the idea that one day it would be possible to point, click and download.

When Summer School is Not Enough: Teens Learn in Nature's Classroom
A recent study by Professor Anna Mueller at the University of Texas confirms what teachers have long known: teens under emotional distress cannot perform well at school.

Editor's note: We can only assume that this press release is a viral marketing campaign for the upcoming movie "The Number 23." If so, it's pretty clever, and we couldn't resist publishing it here. Then again, maybe we've been had. In any event, we'd be interested in reading your take on all of this.
The Number 23 -- New Book Reveals "Satan's Latest Trick"

Not Enough Time In the Day? Learn From A Sea Turtle.
by John P. Strelecky
Author of The Why Café |
|
As strange as it may sound, we can learn a great deal about how to prioritize our lives by taking a few moments and watching a sea turtle. That may sound crazy, but it’s true. Sometimes major life lessons come from the most unlikely of sources. When it comes to prioritization, sea turtles are experts.

Alternative History
by Christine Hall
Back in the 60s, there was a common belief among the more
cosmic hippies that the social historians had it wrong when they said
that we humans elevated ourselves from primitive status some seven to
ten thousand years ago and began slowly working towards the eventual
goal of creating the U.S. Constitution, Ford automobiles and the
Windows operating system. According to this theory, humans had
developed a highly advanced technological society in the past, long
before the dawn of known pre-history, but had somehow managed to
destroy their civilization by misusing their technology.

May 7th Is (Blush) Menstrual Monday
A slightly different version of this article appeared in an April, 2000 edition of ESP Magazine
by Christine Hall
They say that you should be careful about meeting people on the Internet, that you never know what kind of person you're likely to meet in cyberspace. Well, I'm here to tell that's true. I know, from first hand experience, there's all sorts of people cruising around on the electronic super highway. People like Geneva Kachman, writer and publisher of The Traveling Menstrual Show, a book of poems that are all about...er, menstruation. But that was 1999’s project. By this time last year, she was busy getting a new holiday off the ground, Menstrual Monday, a holiday that celebrates the...well, I think you probably get the picture. Now it’s time for Menstrual Monday 2001.
