Category: Start / Health & HealingAn editorial listing of alternative web sites that have to do with Health & Healing. None of the sites in this section are part of a "link exchange." Every site in this section has been approved by our editorial staff as a site we can recommend. Sort links by: Title ( + | - ) Date ( + | - ) Rating ( + | - ) Popularity ( + | - ) Sites currently sorted by: Title (Z to A) Reiki is a hands-on healing technique that was reportedly “discovered” by Japanese Christian missionary Dr. Mikao Usui in the late 1800s. This form of healing is said to channel the “Chi,” or “universal life force,” for healing purposes. Anyway, these days it’s all the rage in New Age circles... so much so that it often seems that there’s more people practicing Reiki than there are people who need healing. Although you can’t practice Reiki until you have been personally “activated” by a Reiki master, this site offers an excellent overview on the subject for anyone who’s considering this practice. “The Reiki Pages” covers everything from ethics (“Charging for Reiki“) to explanations on the principles behind this healing technique. This site also contains a page that illustrates the proper Reiki hand placements. Added on: 18-Jul-2003 | hits: 140 Rate this web site | Modify | Report broken link | Details
While others in the New Age are content to merely brag about the amount of esoteric knowledge they’ve amassed, The Option Institute in Massachusetts is busy helping ordinary folks like us learn how to overcome our self defeating habits. Most impressive is their work to help children with autism. We strongly suggest that you take a look-see at this site. This link is to the text version of the plain English lay version of the Merck Manual, the most widely used diagnostic and treatment tool for those in the medical profession. There is an interactive version also available online, but we’ve found it cumbersome and difficult to use. Although this manual is published by Merck, the mainstream pharmaceutical company that brings you drugs like Propecia, we still think that this site should be on everybody’s bookmark list, as it’s a comprehensive guide that can be invaluable during a medical emergency. Although this is a very spiritual site, we're putting it in our "body" section because they do a lot of work with the emotional bodies. They say, "Our mission is to serve as a global forum to inspire, educate, connect and support those seeking community and credible resources for all aspects of healing. In so doing, we are committed to promoting conscious healing, integrity, compassionate service and hope." Five out of five stars.

We like Reiki, and we like this site a lot! The site is not only chock full of information on Reiki, it has a way-cool doorway motif to get you to different areas of the site. Even if you are not into Reiki, you owe it to yourself to check this site out. Five out of five stars!!! Added on: 05-Aug-2003 | hits: 127 Rate this web site | Modify | Report broken link | Details
Another recommendation from LightTouch, the AlternativeApproaches.com resident Reiki Master. This site is published by The International Center for Reiki Training, a nonprofit organization"dedicated to the re-establishment of Reiki energies in our modern world." They have over 150 articles on Reiki online, publish a free online newsletter and offer a variety of classes on Reiki. We would imagine that all Reiki practitioners will want to bookmark this page. Three out of five stars. Added on: 06-Aug-2003 | hits: 105 Rate this web site | Modify | Report broken link | Details
The navigation on this site well-intentioned site is very confusing. So confusing, in fact, that all but the most web-savey geeks are likely to throw their arms up in desperation. The site does have some positive things to offer, however. You can request free distance Reiki - and Reiki for self-realization. We give it Two out of Five Stars. This new site is operated by the herbal products manufacturer, has a fairly extensive list on heath care issues. It allows users to look-up a health care concern, then gives information and recommends herbal products. Most of the products recommended are not proprietary, meaning they can be found at any health food store (or you can purchase them online directly from the site). We definitely recommend the bookmarking of this site. Added on: 01-Jul-2007 | hits: 322 Rate this web site | Modify | Report broken link | Details
Online version of the print magazine. This is a huge site with special sections on Ayurveda, “holistic cancer cure,” meditation, pranic healing, Reiki and Yoga. As on our site, they divide many of their subjects in the categories of body, mind and spirit. Although we’ve placed this site under the heading of "Health & Healing" because so much of their information is focused on health issues, it’s really an extremely inclusive site. Five out of five stars! Added on: 18-Jul-2003 | hits: 148 Rate this web site | Modify | Report broken link | Details
